      UK-based Splash Damage got its start as a modding house founded by hardcore PC gamers who made games for hardcore PC gamers.The studio is responsible for the popular 2001 mod Quake 3 Fortress, and has since developed Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and the 2008 online shooter, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, among other releases.But while Splash Damage has its roots in hardcore PC gaming, the studio has had to adapt to a market that is highly-focused on console gaming. "About two or three years ago we realized that we really wouldn't survive if we only made PC games, since purely making PC games was incompatible with our goal of making triple-A games, said Splash Damage head Paul Wedgwood.

"We're giving it a twist, bu that was always the idea" he explained of the Abrahamic, Mayan, Buddhist, Nordic and Lovecraftian mythology that permeates the games story and visuals. "We have the real world setting, but we also have these elements of fantasy, of occult, of magic, and that had a lot of appeal."

      Despite users spending extended time and money in Home, Sony isn't currently aiming to develop it as a marketplace.During the London Games Conference last night, Pete Edwards, director of PlayStation Home, said that Home users are spending money on items through microtransactions in Sony's virtual world."It's been a long road," he said. " We've proved there is a market out there and we've got a lot of people that spend a lot of time in [Home]. It's not a priority right now but there is a business model there."
