Hideki Matsui's bat and Johnny Damon's spikes are among the items from the Yankees' World Series title going to the Baseball Hall of Fame.Nearly a dozen pieces were donated after New York won Wednesday night and will be displayed as part of an exhibit on baseball's postseason history. They include the bat Matsui used to drive in a record-tying six runs in Game 6 and the spikes Damon wore when he stole two bases on one pitch in Game 4.
Hideki Matsui has the most curious habit at the plate. He never takes a practice swing once he steps into the batter's box.He saves all those meaty cuts for when he needs them.Matsui did all sorts of damage Wednesday night, setting a record with six RBIs in a World Series clincher and leading the New York Yankees over the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3 Wednesday night. His performance won Game 6 - and clinched the MVP trophy.
The Los Angeles Angels have re-signed outfielder Bobby Abreu to a two-year contract. The deal also contains a club option for 2012.Abreu joined the Angels shortly before spring training last winter and enjoyed a standout year, batting .293 with 15 home runs, 103 RBIs and 30 stolen bases. The two-time All-Star has driven in at least 100 runs in seven straight seasons, tied for the majors' longest active streak.
Ryan Clark may be saying everything he needs to say with his growing silence. The Pittsburgh Steelers safety is usually one of the team's most talkative players, but he is saying little as it becomes increasingly likely he won't play Monday in Denver due to a rare blood condition that nearly caused him to die after playing there two years ago.Nearly all of Clark's teammates are urging him to skip the game.
