Knuckleballer Tim Wakefield is being left off Boston's roster for the World Series because of a bad shoulder.The 41-year-old Wakefield fought through back problems late in the season and was kept off the roster for the first-round series against the Los Angeles Angels. He has pitched once since Sept. 29, allowing five runs in 4 2-3 innings in Game 4 of the AL championship series against the Cleveland Indians.Wakefield was 17-12 with a 4.76 ERA in the regular season.
Aaron Cook was added Tuesday to the Colorado Rockies' roster for the World Series, and he'll start Game 4 at home against Boston.Cook, who was the Rockies' opening-day starter, hasn't pitched in a major league game since Aug. 10 because of a strained muscle in his side.Cook pitched in a simulated game Saturday at Coors Field while the Rockies waited through a record eight-day layoff for the World Series, proving he was healthy and ready to return to the rotation.
Jaguars quarterback David Garrard had an MRI Tuesday to determine the extent of his sprained left ankle.Garrard injured his ankle in Monday night's 29-7 loss to Indianapolis. He limped into the locker room following the second-quarter sack by Ed Johnson, got his ankle re-taped and returned to the game. However, swelling increased during halftime, forcing Garrard back to the bench. He finished 8-of-12 passing for 72 yards.
Tennessee Titans Coach Jeff Fisher expects quarterback Vince Young to start on Sunday against the Oakland Raiders. Young strained his right quadricep at Tampa Bay on Oct. 14 and sat out Sunday's 38-36 victory against the Houston Texans.
