    +Towson vs. URI
The Rams fall to Towson at home.

+32 lessons in boxing and life (part 1)
This weekend was a birthday weekend and I turned 32 years old. October 10. What's cool is that next year, it will be 10/10/10. Pure numerical and universal alignment.

+2009 MLB seasoin in review: Baltimore Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles are a bad baseball organization, and a bad baseball team. A new day was supposed to arrive two years ago when Andy McPhail came to town in 2007. McPhail was the architect of the 1987 and 1991 Minnesota Twins World Champions but, so far he has failed to help rebuild the Orioles. Given that the play in the AL east with the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, and Tampa Bay Rays life is a little tough on them, but beyond Nick Markakis this is a roster pretty devoid of Major League talent.

    +2009-10 NBA preview: Philadelphia 76ers
Two big questions face this team for the coming NBA season. Have the finally found, the right Head Coach, and who will take over the point from departed guard Andre Miller? While this team has made the playoffs in each of the last two seasons, losing Miller is a huge blow. This team will have to turn over the point to a few players that don't have all that much experience running an offense. While they are a pretty good team, they face an uphill battle to get back to the playoffs in 2010.

+Padilla, Dodgers beat Cardinals 5-1 for sweep
Unemployed in August, Vicente Padilla kept the Los Angeles Dodgers going in October.

    +Franchetti Wins IRL Title
Dario Franchitti's return to IndyCar racing couldn't have gone better. He's the IRL champion once again.

    +Eagles no match for Hokies
Tyrod Taylor, Ryan Williams and No. 5 Virginia Tech's swarming defense made sure the Hokies' regular season losing streak against Boston College ended.

+IAAF plans to develop gender definition
This is an Aug. 28, 2009, file photo showing South African athlete Caster Semenya during her celebration at the Ga-Masehlong village in Moletjie, South Africa.

+Teixeira &A-Rod power Yankees past Twins
Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez stood together as Yankee Stadium roared. Teixeira had the chills.

    +2009-10 NBA preview: Utah Jazz
The Utah Jazz front office and their fans often cite the summer of 2003 as the most difficult summer, this club has ever had to struggle through. That year John Stockton retired, and Karl Malone left for the LA Lakers, while that was a tough one nothing could compare to the turmoil this team just had to suffer through in 2009. The Jazz had to wait until late June to learn that Carlos Boozer, Mehmet Okur, and Kyle Korver had decided to play their final contract year with the team instead of trying to test a tepid free agent market.

+2009 MLB season review: Pittsburgh Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates have not had a winning season now in 17 ears, in fact they are little more than a Triple A developmental team for whichever contender has enough prospects stocked up to trade for their star players. While they are one of the worst teams in the MLB, they are not as bad off as the Washington Nationals. If the ownership group of this club ever decided to spend a little money, they could be contenders, and their fans would flock to their beautiful newer baseball stadium.

+Las Vegas Locos win premier UFL game
The UFL is off to a start. It is somewhat hard to gauge what kind of start since the expectations for this league are pretty low, but they held their first game last night on the cable channel versus live from Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. In that contest the Las Vegas Locos defeated the California Redwoods 31-17 in what was a pretty entertaining game.

+Lawsuit Continues In UCF Football Player's Death
A motion filed by UCF to throw out a wrongful death lawsuit is denied.

+Phillies' Martinez to face Rockies in Game 3
Pedro Martinez is getting the ball and the call in another big game. Philadelphia manager Charlie Manuel chose the aging right-hander over J.A. Happ and Joe Blanton, who made cameo appearances out of the bullpen Thursday, to face the Colorado Rockies in Game 3 of their NL playoff series Saturday night.
